How to Plan the Best Summer Vacation

How to Plan the Best Summer Vacation

Are you wondering how you can be sure you’re planning the best summer vacation? Are you not sure how to go about preparing for your vacation this summer? Depending on your circumstances and experience, planning a vacation can seem daunting. And a poorly-planned trip can be more of a headache than a relaxing vacation. Here are some tips to help you prepare and get the most out of your summer vacation this year.

  1. Flexibility

It may seem contradictory, but part of great planning is flexibility. If you expect every detail of your plan to play out exactly as it is on paper, you’re likely to end up frustrated. Some things are just not in your control. For instance, heavy traffic, flight delays, and weather can all affect your travel time. So, it’s a good idea to allow some extra time for these unpredictable things and to have a back-up plan (more on that below).

Flexibility also allows for sight-seeing and other diversions. Unplanned stops can make for great memories and experiences.

  1. Back-up Plans

It’s not a bad idea to have a back-up plan in case of unforeseen events. For instance, even if you leave early and allow time for a traffic jam, circumstances could come together in such a way that you must spend the night somewhere before reaching your destination. Before leaving, scope out hotels that are along your route, and bring their information with you.

  1. Food

It can cost valuable time if you must hunt down a restaurant for every meal on travel day. Like the hotels, look ahead to find out where restaurants are in route. Plan your travel time so that restaurant stops will hit close to meal times.

Also, on the topic of food, it’s a good idea to bring snacks, drinks, and non-perishables (like granola bars and trail mix). It gives you an option if you run out of time and can’t stop for a meal, or it prevents having to find a place to pull off and buy a snack.

  1. Pack Light, but be Prepared

It can be a little tricky to be prepared while keeping your packing light. The key is knowing what to expect. For instance, you can’t be ready for absolutely everything (or else you’ll end up taking the entire contents of your home along with you!); but you can prepare for some basic things. For instance, make for various weather events by packing outfits that can be layered (you can add or remove layers according to the weather). It saves space by not packing different outfits for each possible weather scenario, but it keeps you covered.

A basic first-aid kit is also a good use of your packing space. It doesn’t have to be big, but it can make all the difference.

Airline Price Wars – Capitalize on Your Air Fare

Airline Price Wars – Capitalize on Your Air Fare

Most people travel to some degree or another, be it for vacation or work. Whether you travel a lot or just the odd vacation, you will want to make sure you get the best deal on any airline tickets. Taking a plane can be a bit pricey, especially when you add it into all the other expenses you must deal with when traveling, so making sure you pay the least amount of money is an important aspect to keep in mind.

If you are looking for some ways to help capitalize on Airline price wars and get yourself the best possible deal, then look no further. The following list of tips are things you can do easily, but despite being easy they can also save you a lot of money.

1: Book your flight in advance. If you know you are going to be flying somewhere months before your actual trip, then book ahead. Many airlines will offer discounts to those who book a month or more before their actual flight. You can also use the months leading up to keep tabs on the various competing airlines, as prices can fluctuate greatly as the different companies get into Airline price wars, driving overall prices down.

2: Be flexible. If you are going to be traveling somewhere, try to be as flexible as possible. What day you fly on, or even what time of the day can greatly affect your prices. If you book a flight during off days where people do not want to travel, as well as times when people do not travel, you can get huge discounts. It is a little more cumbersome, which is why a lot of people do not do it, but it is a great way to save yourself a little extra money.

3: Check for upgrades. A lot of airline companies will offer a variety of deal packages and upgrades that most travelers simply are not aware of. For example, active military personnel often get a discount on many flights. Other such great deals can be out there if you go looking, so with just a bit of investigative work you can save yourself even more money.

4: Bundle up. This is a more common approach to getting a good deal on your airline, as I am sure you have seen commercials telling you to bundle up your services. But it is true, if you bundle up your hotel, rental car, and flight you can often save money then if you had paid for each one separately. If you are going to be using these things anyways, why not take the cheaper approach?

Finding ways to save money on your trips really is not that hard. While it can be a bit time consuming, especially if you wait for Airline price wars to drive the prices down, it ultimately does not take that much effort and can make a huge impact. Every dollar you save on your traveling expenses is another dollar going to your vacation, or anything else you may want or need it for.
